Bradley Barcola to Liverpool transfer twist as decision made over £145m PSG demand

Bradley Barcola has been Liverpool's priority transfer target for the summer window but a bold decision looks to have been made on the Paris Saint-Germain star

Liverpool have chosen to pause transfer negotiations for Bradley Barcola with Paris Saint-Germain still demanding £145million. The Reds have been strongly linked to Barcola over the last few weeks as they look to strengthen in attack after Yan Diomande opted to join Real Madrid over both them and PSG.

Luis Enrique's side are currently in the process of finalising two incomings with Mika Godts joining from Ajax and Ferran Torres on his way to the European champions from Barcelona.

Maghnes Akliouche has already joined from AS Monaco, which suggests Barcola, who did not play in their UEFA Super Cup final win over Aston Villa, could be free to leave.

L'Equipe have claimed that Liverpool are yet to find a breakthrough in talks and will thus wait until the final days of the window before restarting their attempts to sign him.

PSG are currently holding firm on their sizeable financial demands despite his unwillingness to sign a new contract. The Frenchman is reportedly open to an Anfield switch but Liverpool are not currently bending to their demands, seemingly in the hope their asking price decreases.

With roughly £150m to be spent on attackers, it is fair to assume that the Parisians may need to sell and will accept a fee lower below their current demands, but it is certainly a big risk to take.

Having parted ways with Mohamed Salah, Liverpool need to sign a new elite-level forward particularly with Tottenham showing a keen interest in Cody Gakpo.

Diomande was an option before Real paid £120million to sign from RB Leipzig. Barcola and his club teammate Ibrahim Mbaye have subsequently emerged as options. The latter was also an unused substitute against Unai Emery's side.

Liverpool have not been too active in the window thus far with Victor Munoz and Ronald Araujo the only signings made this summer.

The latter is the second new defender into Anfield, however, with an agreement reached to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes back in February.

Departures and rumours surrounding Liverpool players have been more prominent with Curtis Jones still a target of Inter Milan and Gakpo potentially set to join Spurs.
