Left-back Calum Scanlon has returned to Cardiff City on a season-long loan from Liverpool.

The 21-year-old helped the Bluebirds secure promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt after joining in February.

Scanlon made eight appearances in League One and has come back to boost Brian Barry-Murphy's squad for the 2026-27 campaign.

Cardiff, who beat Swindon in the Carabao Cup, start their league season with a home game against Welsh rivals Wrexham on Monday (20:00 BST).

"I'm grateful for the experience I've already had here and I can't wait to make new memories at the club," said Scanlon, who signed a new Liverpool contract before sealing the loan move.

Scanlon, who had a previous loan spell at Millwall, featured for the Reds in pre-season but has been sent out to get more senior experience and will battle for starts with Joel Bagan.

"I'm ready to go, it's been a positive pre-season getting minutes," he said. "It was good for me. My body is ready for the season."

The defender, who has represented England through the age groups, is Cardiff's third senior signing of the summer after Nathan Trott's loan from Copenhagen was turned permanent and midfielder Jack Moylan arrived from Lincoln City.
