Mallorca goalkeeper Ivan “Pichu” Cuellar was rushed to hospital on Monday after the club's training ground canteen collapsed on him.
The Spanish club released a statement on Monday revealing that he had sustained a "serious head injury" and was subsequently taken to hospital.
The incident occurred at Mallorca's Ciutat Esportiva Antonio Asensio – also known as Son Bibiloni - ahead of a training session on Monday.
Their statement read: “This morning, Ivan ’Pichu’ Cuéllar suffered a serious head injury after a large structure, which formed part of the decor in the dining room at the Ciutat Esportiva collapsed.
"The player has been taken to hospital for treatment and will remain under observation for the next 24 hours.”
The 42-year-old has been at Mallorca for the last three years but has only made a few appearances. He has been their second-choice goalkeeper during this period.
Prior to his spell with Mallorca, Cuellar played for Sporting Gijon, Leganes, Eibar and Atletico Madrid. The former was where he made most of his appearances as he turned out 247 times for them across nine years.
The veteran goalkeeper opted to re-join them back in 2021 after a four-year spell at Eibar with that his most recent club before signing at Mallorca.
His serious issue leaves the club with just one senior shot-stopper available for this weekend's Segunda Division clash against Girona, in Arnau Tenas, with Lucas Bergstrom away on international duty representing Finland.
The two clubs were both relegated from La Liga this season with Mallorca only behind their upcoming opponents on goal difference in the table.
