Man Utd news: £85m transfer touted as long-term target added to wishlist
Manchester United continue to up their preparations for the 2026/27 Premier League season
Michael Carrick could add yet another midfielder to his ranks as Manchester United are linked with an £85million-rated star. The Red Devils have been relatively quiet in the transfer window as of late following a flurry of activity at the beginning of the summer.
Andrey Santos, Karl Darlow and Youri Tielemans all signed for United for a combined fee of £85m. Meanwhile, Casemiro headed to Inter Miami after his contract expired and Rasmus Hojlund made his loan deal at Napoli permanent.
Radek Vitek joined Middlesbrough for £7m while Altay Bayindir headed out on loan to Celta Vigo. United will be keen to add more firepower to their ranks with a midfielder and defender the latest to be linked.
Here, Mirror Football has the latest coming out of Old Trafford.
£85m transfer touted
United are keeping close tabs on Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton and remain strongly interested in the 22-year-old. The Sun reports that Carrick has identified the England international as a new option for his midfield.
Wharton is valued at around £85m by his club and has become one of the Premier League's hottest targets in recent months. However, Palace remain in a strong position regarding the midfielder's future with his contract running until 2029.
Former United star Paul Scholes is adamant that his ex-club should sign Wharton, calling him the "perfect" addition to Carrick's squad. He told The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast: "I can’t believe they’re not trying to buy Adam Wharton.

Sky has upgraded its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundle to now include HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, discovery+ and Hayu, as well as 135 channels and full Sky coverage of the Premier League and EFL.
Sky broadcasts more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more with at least 215 live from the top flight alongside Formula 1, darts and golf.
"Sandro Tonali would have been my first-choice but with him gone now, Adam Wharton looks perfect to me."
Long-term target on United wishlist
Reports in Germany claim that Carrick has placed Bayern Munich's Kim Min-jae on a 'transfer list' before the summer window shuts. The Metro reports that United are open to signing a new defender due to ongoing injury issues with Leny Yoro and Lisandro Martinez, as well as Harry Maguire's advanced age.
The report states that the Red Devils have long-term interest in the South Korea international and are once more keen to sign him. Kim was heavily linked with Chelsea earlier this year before they signed Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace for £52m.
